PRACTICAL LEARNING ACTIVITIES
As a supplement to classroom
and laboratory meetings, field trips are taken to distribution centers,
processing and production businesses and other related industries within
agriculture. Frequent visits by guest speakers from leading agricultural
firms further ensure that the student gains practical, current knowledge.
Students may also take advantage of the work and research opportunities at
the University Farm. Finally, students are strongly encouraged to do an
internship at an off-campus site, such as an agribusiness or a governmental
agency, in the US or abroad.

RESEARCH
Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness students and faculty are currently
engaged in the following research:
survey of financial conditions of Northeast Missouri farmers;
the relevance of USDA fruit and vegetable grades and standards to
Kirksville consumers;
economic impact of farmers' markets and pick-your-own farms on low
income consumers and small farmers of Adair county;
the economic impact of corporate farms in Northeast Missouri.

INTERNSHIPS
Internships at off-campus sites in research, agri-business, or with
governmental agencies are attainable and are encouraged. Furthermore,
internships are also available in other parts of the U.S. or abroad.

SCHOLARSHIPS
Truman State University offers a variety of scholarships based on
demonstrated academic ability. To apply for Truman State University's
scholarships, students only need to complete and submit an application for
admission to the University. To be considered for competitive scholarships,
applications must be received by November 15 of each year. Non-competitive
or automatic scholarships are available to applicants who have demonstrated
outstanding academic records regardless of the time the application is
submitted.
