RESEARCH
Agronomy and biology faculty and their students are currently engaged in
the following research areas: wild prairie legumes for inter-planting in
warm-season grass pastures, winter cover crops for grain fields, soil water
movement in Northeast Missouri soils, atrazine resistant pigweeds, the
effects of different farming systems on soil microorganisms, corn breeding,
and molecular genetics. It is possible to do horticultural research in the
greenhouse located at the
University Farm, in a small vineyard or a
small orchard, also located at the University Farm.

FACILITIES
The University Farm at Truman State
University consists of 400 acres, located about one mile from the campus, on
the edge of Kirksville. The Farm includes 54 acres of cropland
(alfalfa-orchard grass hay and corn) and 6 acres devoted to undergraduate
agronomic research; the remainder is pasture land for the University horse
and cattle herds. Facilities include: barns, shops, and some on-farm student
housing. Classrooms, teaching and research laboratories, and a computer
suite are located in Barnett Hall. Within the next 6 months (by March 1
2004) approximately $700,000 of new facilities will be built at the Farm.
