OVERVIEW OF THE AGRICULTURE CURRICULUM Agricultural Science majors have five principal components in their coursework: the Liberal Studies Program, the requirements of which all undergraduate students at Truman must fulfill; includes Essential Skills, Modes of Inquiry, and Interconnecting Perspectives; the Agricultural Science core curriculum (27 hours), which includes coursework in all major areas of agriculture. Specific required courses are: AGSC 108: Introduction to Agricultural Systems (4 credits) AGSC 110: Principles of Plant Agriculture (4 credits) AGSC 212: Principles of Soil Science (4 credits) AGSC 260: Agricultural Markets and Products (3 credits) AGSC 315: Principles of Animal Agriculture (4 credits) AGSC 415: Ethical Issues in Sustainable Agriculture (WE, 3 credits) AGSC 420: Seminar in Agriculture (1 credit) AGSC 490: Practicum in Agriculture I (2 credits) AGSC 491: Practicum in Agriculture II (2 credits) required support (17-19 hours) which includes two tracks all Agricultural Science majors completing a science-based area of specialization must take the following BIOL 107 Inorganic (CHEM 120 and 121) and Organic (CHEM 320 or 329) Chemistry ECON 201 all Agricultural Science majors completing an ag business area of specialization must complete BIOL 107 CHEM 120 ECON 201 ECON 200 in substitution for CHEM 121 substitute any of the following for Organic Chemistry: Any 200 level or above MATH; ECON 300, 302, 303, 304, 306, 307, 344, 345, 372, 402 or 403; STAT 375, 376 or 378; BSAD 352, 357 or 360 a very flexible Area of Specialization (15 hours) in which students choose a set of courses to help them realize their career goals; electives in Agricultural Science (15 hours), which can be chosen from the courses in the following table.
