COURSE OBJECTIVE

The objective of this class is to provide the student with a basic understanding of some of the mechanisms involved in an animal maintaining its health, some of the mechanisms involved in disease pathogenesis, and some of the ways that humans as owners and caretakers can influence or prevent the disease process. An overall summary of basic infectious diseases, non-infectious diseases, parasites, and vaccination recommendations for cattle, horses, and dogs and possibly other species will be discussed.

CLASS POLICIES
  1. The student is responsible for material covered in lecture, lab, and any outside readings.
  2. No textbook is required; some lecture outlines will be provided.
  3. A term paper is required. Further information will be forthcoming.
GRADING CRITERIA

3 tests @ 100 = 300 points
Term paper 100 points
Final exam 100 points
Possible lab reports 10-30 points
Total points possible 510-530 points

Grade scale: 90-100% A, 80-89% B, 70-79% C, 60-69% D, < 60 F
