Area Youth Tour University Farm (10/30/2009)
Fall is often a beautiful time to be on a farm, and several area schools and youth groups have made visits to the University Farm this fall. Wet weather made scheduling tours a challenge but, according to farm manager Bill Kuntz, the farm received over 1,400 visitors this year. Visitors came from La Plata, Green City, Milan, Unionville, and Kirksville schools, as well as several preschool and homeschool groups in the area.
Shown below, Philosophy & Religion major Will Erker supervises the grinding of apples in preparation for pressing apple cider.
and Biology major Robert Welter tells a group of third-graders how the cattle handling facilities are used to work the farm's cows and calves.
