What attracted you to Truman?
I was largely attracted by the reputation as a great university for a good price. Cities just aren’t for me, and Kirksville is a lot like home. The program here ensures great exposure to many disciplines, yet still offers the best in each. The Agriculture Department in itself has great staff, many striving to push you to do your best.
What do you like best about Truman?
I like the atmosphere. A majority of the student population seems dedicated to learning. Smaller classes and actual professors teaching them make things more amiable. It’s easier to get help when you need it. The University Farm is one of my favorite places; to work, ride horses, or do research.
What do you like most about your classes?
The classes are typically fairly small. I didn’t like the idea of going to a larger university with hundreds of kids in the class. In that kind of situation you’re just another face in the crowd. Here you can make yourself known, and professors will recognize you out of the crowd. Smaller classes allow better learning environments as a fact, but good teachers help as well.
What do you feel is unique about Truman?
I feel Truman offers the high quality education of a larger university in a more condensed setting. There is a good deal of diversity among both students and staff, and the programs offered are top of the line. The opportunities available make Truman a great selection.
Have you studied abroad, done an internship, or
participated in undergraduate research?
This past summer of 2009 I participated in undergraduate research through a grant. I worked with Dr. Wehner and the University Farm’s fistulated steer Bubba to determine if there was a correlation between the rate of fermentation and the level of amylose present in corn.
What are your plans after graduation?
hope to be accepted to the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine and from there work as a mixed practice veterinarian.
